What do distance and location details on Omkring.nu mean?
The results are only as relevant as the starting point and the search radius. Here you can see why a full address often gives better answers than a zip code and how to interpret the distance in the lists.

The most recently verified place is reused between the home page and category pages. You can replace it at any time without removing the old results before the new place has been confirmed.
| Location Selection | Suitable when |
|---|---|
| Full address | You want to find the really closest alternative to a building |
| Place or postal code | You want to get an overview of a larger area |
| Your Position | You are in place and the browser may use GPS |
Straight-line distance is not journey time
The distance of a result card is normally the straight distance between two coordinates. Water, railways, one-way roads and the location of the entrances can make the real road longer.
Use the distance to sort options and then open the route description of the place you are considering. For public transport, also the line, direction and changes need to be weighed in.
- Reduce urban radius for more local hits
- Increase radius stepwise when list is empty
- Check the actual route before you leave
A place and an exact address can produce completely different results
Town or postcode
A full address or device position gives a more precise starting point.
It is therefore possible that two searches with the same place name show different closest results when based on different exact positions.
Expand the radius stepwise
A very large radius from the beginning can fill the list with results that are far away and make it harder to see what is actually close.
So start with an area that corresponds to how far you are reasonably prepared to travel.
If the list is empty, the search area can then be expanded gradually.
Questions and answers
Why is a place that looks close down?
Sorting is based on the straight distance of the coordinates. Incomplete or misplaced map coordinates can affect the order.
Is my exact position saved in the URL?
No. The selected location is saved in the website's first-party storage on the device and exact GPS coordinates do not need to be added to the public URL.
